Introgressive hybridization- hybridizing followed by specific back crossing between participants.
ie: papillilaminum x dressleri = new hybrid we will call hybrid X if you cross X back to papillilaminum or dressleri you get: Introgressant swarms. These swarms are different from (F1) generations.
These scenario is simple for interspecies crosses as above.
but if this was:
papillilaminum ‘Beige’ x papillilaminum ‘Dragon’ technically would those be (F1) and would a crossing of their offspring back to the parent plants be introgressant swarms? Or are we all looking too close making it too complicated? I think the naming of cultivars or pet names of plants is the splicer mentality that is mentioned below. However for some balance one should note that even the most exceptional of clones is still the species in question. The solution is we hobbyist-breeders name all our favorite plants and just give each “hybrid” or “species” created a “seed batch ID”. Trade names run the gamuts from shocking to technical. These situations pose unique challenges in the Anthurium collecting hobby in which “clonal cross” are prevalent, and essential, to the robust hobbyist-breeder involvement.
Epistemology- study of knowledge. Determines justified belief from opinion.
Ontology- study of being—what impacts all living beings.
The aim of taxonomy: evolutionary classification based on a fundamental unit: the species.
some scientists are lumpers and want less numbers of groups. Combine things.
splicers- want to make more and more and more leaves and branches on the taxonomic tree.
The neotropics lose 71-95 plant species per year.
