Dyson Spheres of Influence
From horse and carriage to ai.. in two generations… we need energy.
On average Americans went from using 33 to 93 Quadrillion Btus from 1950-2021.
Here’s a movie idea:
A group of scientists discover a mineral composition on Mars (or use fictional planets) that can be mined and used to create a Dyson sphere. This sphere requires more resources to construct than their dying planet can provide. If constructed the sphere would gather enough energy in 1 hour to power the entire planet on which they live for 100 years at their current consumption rate.
Cut to scenes of massive space construction site in which international crews work round the clock to construct this novel structure. The unprecedented cooperation eases tensions in several hostile zones on their home planet.
{So the movie still has bite let’s make the lead character with a flaw that draws attention towards an issue you find important}
After 22 years of construction and overcoming their personal struggles our protagonist leads the team to completion of the first ever Dyson sphere.
Cut to years of energy without as much pollution and bliss.
The science here is real, based on a true story.
Or if you’re not into such grandiosity and want to go more eco-warrior and less star warsy you could do a more plausible scenario:
The movie could be a gritty team of scientists developing groundbreaking earth energy harnessing devices for solar, wind, and tidal forces which have a similar impact but in a more realistic setting.
